Warm as toast!

I LOVE winter. I love to rug up and get cosy,  Cover my body in layers of clothing and put my feet in to my Ugg Boots.
Grey days, rainy afternoons in front of the fire, curled up on the couch under a doona reading a book or watching a movie. Roast vegetables and nuts, hearty soups and veggie stews, baking cakes and biscuits . Knitting and crochet.

Winter woolies

But most of all I Love the changing landscape that comes with winter. When I am in Australia I live in Byron Bay on the North east coast of New South Wales, 2 streets away from the beach. Every day I walk my dog and my baby on the beach , rain, hail or shine. Winter is my favourite time in the Bay when the sun is shining it is sublime, when a storm is rolling in it is magical and breath taking.

I also love to pop down to visit my mum in Sydney. She still lives in the house I grew up in, in the beautiful leafy suburb of Turramurra. So when I go to visit her I have a real sense of going home.
Winter in Sydney, cold short days, and the colours of the trees all at different stages of changing, the warmth of reds, browns, yellows and oranges as you wander the cold streets of the suburbs.

Cold is my thing, I LOVE winter.
I hope where ever you are you stay warm!

Keeping it Real!!

So I try to do the right thing, I’m not saying I am a saint, I definitely make mistakes. I'm not big on making new years resolutions, believing that they create to much pressure upon ones self.
But this year I made a resolution that I am going to give a red hot go and so far I have done alright!!

About 3 years ago at a Finders Keepers, I brought a Keep Cup….. BPA free, restruant grade,  reusable  coffee cup. It sort of hung around the kitchen being moved around getting in my way being used every now and then. But mostly an annoying reminder that every time I forgot to take it with me to the shop I had added yet again to the growing number of disposable  take away coffee cups that add to our ever growing land fills.
So this year I decided it was time to give up the take away cups without giving up the take away coffee. So far So good.

A few facts about disposable coffee cups

500 billion disposable cups are manufactured globally every year: that’s about 75 disposable cups for every single person on the planet, placed end to end they can circumnavigate the earth 100 times

In the US 58 billion disposable cups are thrown out annually with the majority ending up in landfill; that is, 158 disposable cups for every US inhabitant.

Very little recycled paper is used to make disposable cups because of contamination concerns, most of these are coated with plastic, both composting and recycling is uncommon.

Urban rubbish has increased tenfold over the course to the 20th century, form 92 to 1242 pounds of pure product waste per person per year. At this rate, we discard approximately 14.4 times our body weight in waste every year.

For more facts on this you can go the keep cup website here

Here are also a few other funky reusable cups that I have found on my quest for the perfect cup.
So if the Keep cup isn't your style maybe one of these might be.

I do love a thermos and this one is very funky you can get it here

Kindred Spirits have these little beauties you can get them here

And you can find these awesome ones and many more at biome here

I hope this inspires you to make a difference no matter how small, even if you only do it once a week or once a month thats a start.

I have a thing for birds

I'm not sure when or how it happened, but I have a thing for birds.
Don't ask me why, maybe it is something subconscious, representing freedom, wanting my dreams to fly, who knows, but I could watch and listen to them all day long..
So of course naturally this will overflow into my work and ideas of inspiration.
Here is just a few images to delight.

First Timer

So at the moment we are in India again, well for me it is again but for the Cheeky Monkey it is his first time.
What a trip it has been and to see Banjo love the life of a traveller as much as his mum it has been wonderful.I have always believed that children choose their parents for the experiences that they will give them this life and it is heart warming to see that this is true in my little one.
We are working on a new collection with some new things to excite all our Beej lovers, and of course some things for the little cheeky monkeys in all your lives too.
Here are a few photos of us so far, and soon I will post a sneak peak of what is to come for Beej 2011/2012
this is how we travel, cheeky monkey on my back!!

sleeping the day away

This morning I was lying in bed, a rare luxury these days, and I was thinking how much I loved being in bed. Before my baby it was one of the things I loved to do the most, sleeping in.
Don't even get me started on an afternoon ciesta, wow those were the days.
I'm sure those days will come back again, but for now I hold on to those wonderful memories of long sleeps and wistful day dreaming and live vicariously through others who get to enjoy this lush experience in equally lush places.

sweet dreams all
